Bill Johnson – Power over Principle, Honoring the Dishonorable.

By Rick Becker   7 January 2020

Todd Bentley is the product of a movement that has elevated men, women, and miracles above God. In the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) the supernatural is a vital element. In fact, the value placed on the supernatural is the underlying philosophy that has enabled charlatans, and in this case a sexual predator to thrive in the NAR. The leaders and the movement value power over principle. By power I mean anything they perceive to be a supernatural gift or manifestation. By principle I mean the principles or fundamental truths contained in scripture. In their defense, NAR leaders who commissioned, restored and recommissioned Bentley will claim that anyone can fall into sin or deception. This is true, but they have failed to address two facts:
• They have created a culture that honors men and women above scripture.
• They commissioned a man who was never qualified for ministry.
One of the leading figures in the NAR who played a pivotal role in the life of Bentley is Bill Johnson. In this article, I explore one aspect of Johnson’s contribution to an insidious movement and the culture within. It has enabled ravenous wolves like Bentley to thrive –  because dead or alive, the dishonorable are honored
.

Dishonoring God by honoring the dishonorable who are alive

Todd Bentley shot to NAR stardom during the “Lakeland revival” during which he kicked and punched people who came forward for prayer. Claims of miracles drew the crowds, and garnered the attention of leaders in the NAR. Leading NAR apostles and prophets could not resist what was deemed to be a supernatural outpouring, and they catapulted Bentley further into the limelight by commissioning this charlatan, an excerpt from Bill Johnson’s prayer over Bentley reveals the philosophy of power above principle :
We shape the course of history, by partnering with you, giving honor where it’s due.You welcome the glory, as well as any anybody I’ve ever seen in my life. I long to learn from you in that, and I bless you, and I pray with the rest of these, that the measure of glory would increase, that Moses would no longer be considered the high water mark where the glory shone from his face, but instead the revelation of the goodness of God would change the face of the church, and that he would use your voice, he would use your grace, your anointing, to alter the face of the church before this world, that the goodness of the Lord will be seen once again, I pray this over you in Jesus name.”

Bentley was elevated because of his “anointing” and the “glory” that rested on him – power over principle. Shortly thereafter, Bentley’s extramarital affair surfaced, he subsequently divorced his wife and married his mistress. Rick Joyner and Bill Johnson oversaw Bentley’s restoration.

Todd Bentley is restored to ministry.

Many questioned Bentley’s return to the ministry after his “restoration” and in this video, Bill Johnson laments that fact that many abandoned Todd when he was “facing some tough stuff” and then responds to a question he received:
“How in God’s name can you endorse Todd Bentley?”
Not surprisingly, Johnson resorts to power over principle as the main thrust of his defense of Bentley:
Excerpts from Bill’s response: “Have you ever been in the room when God shows up on him, and used him in stunning miracles, have you seen him operate in word of knowledge or the prophetic? … have you personally benefited from his gift?…To respond to your statement how in God’s name can you endorse Todd Bentley?, it’s easy, I do it in God’s name.”

Last year new allegations surfaced, and Dr Michael Brown was asked to “oversee a process where these accusations against Todd could be evaluated.”  (Dr Brown is a master of obfuscation when it comes to the NAR, and has refused to expose many of his heretical friends)

This is an excerpt from the  Statement  released by the panel (which include false prophets in the NAR) that investigated Todd Bentley: “Based on our careful review of numerous first-hand reports, some of them dating back to 2004, we state our theological opinion and can say with one voice that, without a doubt, Todd is not qualified to serve in leadership or ministry today. There are credible accusations of a steady pattern of ungodly and immoral behavior, confirmed by an independent investigator’s interviews dating from 2008 up through 2019″

That fact that Todd Bentley was never qualified to serve in the ministry escaped the panel – Bentley failed on multiple counts: “Therefore an overseer  must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 1 Timothy 3:2
“He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it. Titus 1:9

Part of the statement from the panel gives us a hint as to why Bentley was recognized in the first place:
“We love Todd and believe that he has been supernaturally gifted by God”
– power over principle.

To date, Bill Johnson has remained conveniently silent in God’s name. I think he’s waiting for the dust to settle and hopefully fly under the radar. He will abdicate responsibility, and hope that people forget his
promotion of Bentley as recently as 2018. Alternatively, he may end up re-restoring and re-recommissioning a revived Bentley who is in any case forging ahead with his ministry. One thing Johnson should do, is ask himself why all his prophetic friends failed to discern anything during the past decade. These are prophets who give nations and world leaders prophetic words, prophets who can tell you the name of your fluffy toy when you were three years old. These are prophets who offer “seer courses” claim to “shift atmospheres” and take trips to heaven.
Beni Johnson (Bill’s wife) has responded on Instagram. Excerpt: “Everything that has to be said has been said. It’s disgusting that ministries are using this tragedy to continue to promote themselves and counting to talk about it. There has been an official statement from the panel, that is all that was needed….With losing their income in ministry, can you offer them food and water…If you want to be an elite Christian, follow the whole book. I’ve reached out to them to let them know no matter what while we were still sinners Christ died for us, and everything can turn around if you follow the right process.”
Not everything that has needed to be said was said, hence the reason for this article.
Has Beni reached out to the people Todd abused? Has she asked herself why his first restoration process under her husband failed? Why does she not address the fact that Todd refused to co operate with the panel, and is still heading up his “Secret Place Church.” Bentley may have taken a drop in his income, derived from conning people and teaching for shameful gain, but he is not homeless or starving. If Bentley was truly repentant, he would not be active in any form of ministry.

Has Beni not read 1 Corinthians 5: 9-13: I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people – not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one.For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? God judges those outside. “Purge the evil person from among you.”

How many times will Bentley pull the wool over the eyes of some of the wolves that empowered him?

Pursuing the dishonorable

In their quest for supernatural power or anointings, NAR leaders and their minions turn to men and women they have elevated as a power source. They will travel thousands of miles to receive an impartation, “catch the fire” and experience some sort of manifestation at the hands of the supernaturally gifted. These so called supernaturally gifted individuals in the NAR are dishonorable false teachers who claim to have the ability to release the presence of God, perform miracles, activate gifts, and impart anointings. They revel in the admiration they receive, boast of their visions and encounters, and sell their merchandise without shame. They would have been the envy of Simon the sorcerer.

Bill Johnson’s advice to those who want to increase in a lifestyle of miracles:Pursue the men and women of God who carry an anointing in their lives for the miraculous. Such an anointing can be transferred to others through the laying on of hands.  Occasionally there are ministry times when such an individual is willing to pray for those who desire an increase of anointing.  I have traveled extensively in pursuit of MORE.”

Johnson is choosing power over principle, and encourages his followers to follow suit. Not once, does Johnson examine the doctrines of the “anointed apostles and prophets” they pursue. Johnson was mesmerized by the “Toronto blessing” and by his own admission, refused to consider any critique of what was not a blessing, but a great deception: “Someone once brought a book to my office that was critical of the revival that started in Toronto in January of 1994. I refused to read it and threw it away. You might say, “You’re not very open-minded.” You’re right. I am responsible to protect what God has given me.” – Bill Johnson. When Heaven Invades Earth Expanded Edition

Johnson believes he is protecting some kind of power – an impartation he received at Toronto, and is totally oblivious to the fact that as a pastor, he should be protecting the word of God instead of justifying bizarre and demonic manifestations. Power over principle – but in reality, Bill Johnson has neither. He does not value or teach the principles of God, and he has not experienced the power of God in the manner he supposes. Artificial gold dust, gemstones, feathers, smoke and glitter pumped through air vents, Kundalini manifestations, people slain in the spirit, incapacitation, vague and unverifiable healings, and fanciful stories are not the result of God’s power at work.
What the NAR claim to be the power of God, or manifestations of the supernatural from God, are merely man made “signs and wonders,” physiological responses, or demonic manifestations. In reality then, there is no power or principle from God in the NAR.  It’s one big sham, a false movement and a delusion sent by God on those who have rejected truth. This is a movement that dishonors God by attributing false signs and wonders to God.

Dishonoring God by honoring the dishonorable who are dead.

It’s not just the living they run to for some kind of supernatural transfer, Bill Johnson believes that by honoring the dead, we can access their anointings. In this instance, we have the unusual situation where Bethel’s apostle contradicts Bethel’s prophet.
You have probably read or heard about “grave soaking” or “grave sucking” being practiced by Bethelites. It’s the practice of lying on the grave of a deceased preacher in order to receive their anointing through some kind of transfer or impartation.

This is an excerpt from Kris Vallotton’s response to the claim that Bethelites practice grave soaking:  “It has been an inside joke among our Bethel team for years. I really thought it was funny until some folks took it seriously. I mean if God wanted us to receive some kind of impartation from people who have already passed than certainly we would have some New Testament examples or instruction on it. Furthermore, if you could receive some gift from people after they died, than why did Joseph want Jacob to lay hands on his sons before he passed if they could have just as easily received an impartation at his funeral? I think the Elisha story was never meant to be repeated as there are no other accounts of it in the Bible. The Scriptures need to be the foundation in which we base all of our experiences. We are a radical group of revivalist who want to be on the cutting edge of everything God has for us. But it’s really important that in our zeal for God we don’t become spiritually weird.”

Now for something that is not based on scripture, is spiritually weird, and involves the dead.

The following excerpts are from Bill Johnson’s contribution to book Momentum: What God Starts, Never Ends – by Bill Johnson, Eric Johnson (Chapter 4)
The title of the chapter basically indicates that the NAR have made people mediators of God’s power or anointing, it’s titled “Access Through Honor.”
In his chapter, Bill discusses revivalists of the past. Now I’m sure we have all been encouraged by the biographies of men and women of God that have gone before us. But Bill takes it to another level, it’s nonsensical, and a doctrine of demons. Not to mention that most of the “revivalists” he mentions were complete frauds.

Johnson:“These heroes of the faith made sobering choices to follow God, no matter what. In doing so, they have made it possible for me to access things I’d never have access to on my own. The Lord spoke to me about these revivalists, saying “If you will honor the generals of the past, even those whose lives ended poorly, I will give you access to their anointings.”
Chapter, verse?  Surely any believer would know that “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence” 2 Peter 1:3.  Bill is making up his own theology as usual. That quote alone, should cause any believer to shake their head in disbelief, anger, and run from this cult if they are involved in it. Whether you agree that Johnson’s three examples were false teachers or not, does not alter the fact that what he is saying is idolatrous, and should have cemented his place in a new edition of Kingdom of the Cults had the late Walter Martin still been with us.
Johnson uses the stories of Solomon and Hezekiah as examples of biblical figures who started well, but ended poorly. He points out that God recorded their obedience and disobedience. It’s one thing to learn from descriptive passages of inspired scripture, it’s another to throw deceased false teachers into the mix and think we can gain anything from their “ministry” by accessing an anointing. Johnson believes we should honor generals of the past he admires, and uses three specific examples – John Alexander Dowie, William Branham, Lonnie Frisbee .

Johnson: “We didn’t choose these people. God did. And while he never gave the stamp of approval to any of the sin issues in their lives, He did use them, knowing their weaknesses. Why this surprises us is hard for me to understand, considering that none of us are perfect. God doesn’t approve of any of our sins or weaknesses. Yet He gives us access to realms of the Spirit, to forever set us free. The failure to take advantage of the grace made available is not the fault of the gospel, the style of the preachers, the message, or the day they lived in. It is theirs alone. Yet God is not ashamed to let his Name be associated with such people. He actually recorded for all to see that his only Son would be born through the lineage of deceivers, liars, adulterers, and even a prostitute. We should be thankful. It means that we, too, qualify for grace and are available to be used by God.

If Johnson believes God is not ashamed to let his name be associated with a deceased heretic like William Branham, then the same should go for a living one – Todd Bentley.
Would Todd Bentley’s style – kicking and punching people have been approved by Jesus? And what message? I have never heard expository teaching in a NAR service, narcissism and eisegesis characterize their teachings. That’s if you are fortunate enough to hear any scripture at all, as usually it’s dominated by stories and the exploits of the speaker. The style of the preacher and the message is not “theirs alone.” They should have met the biblical qualifications to teach in the first place.  Bill is placing his stamp of approval on heretics because he values power over principle.
We all qualify for grace – because we are all sinners. We don’t all qualify to be teachers of God’s word. Johnson does not seem to know the difference.

Johnson: “of all people, we should be the most accommodating to those whose lives ended poorly  God uses imperfect people, not as a testimony of his approval of their lives, but to confirm His word preached by those people (they don’t preach his word) We must adjust to His values or we become dangerously close to dishonoring His work in those who have gone before us. And since there is no one alive to defend them, God will.

By lives ending poorly, Johnson can only be referring to sin and deception. By confirming his word, Johnson is probably referring to signs and wonders, in other words if there are signs and wonders the word must have been true. He ends his sentence with a threat towards those who dare question his heroes of the faith, most of whom are frauds.
Johnson believes God will inflict us with some form of spiritual lack:

Johnson:“I personally think that many have gone into spiritual poverty simply because of their careless comments and slander of those who have filled an important place in history. Such careless accusations are not acceptable, even though the person is dead. We must guard ourselves. If I am careless to criticize, I have opened myself up to the same spirit that deceived them.”
Bill Johnson’s logic – by pointing out that his hero in the faith, William Branham was a heretic and fraud who taught the serpent seed doctrine, and the “idea that the zodiac and the Egyptian pyramids are equal to written Scripture”… you will be inflicted with  “spiritual poverty.”
Observe what has happened to Johnson, he has failed to discern a heretic like Branham, and gone so far as to ask God for the mantle (anointing) of Branham. He is the one who is deceived, and has opened himself up to doctrines of demons and a spiritual delusion because he values power over principle, and refuses to objectively critique men and movements based on scripture.

Johnson:“I have watched a phenomenon in the things of God. He often puts the very area of spiritual breakthrough we long for most, in the camp of believers we least want to be associated with. It really tests our hunger for more. It is the ultimate test to our prayers that say we’ll pay any price for revival. Considering the value that God places on humility, it shouldn’t surprise us that God would require that of us. After all, Jesus was numbered with two thieves on the cross in His payment for our redemption. In his case it was humiliating. In ours, we have to learn to associate with believers whose lives, for whatever reason, bring embarrassment to us. As the master goes, so goes the servant. All these people, successes and failures, left an inheritance from their victories.”

Is it a coincidence that this Book was written in 2011, just two years after Bill Johnson and Rick Joyner were involved in Bentley’s restoration process? I have no words for the comparison Johnson makes – Jesus being crucified between two thieves, and “believers” associating with other believes who “for whatever reason, bring embarrassment to us.”
Johnson says that if any of the three he mentioned were alive today, he would honor them and ask them to pray for him. He tells the story of meeting the granddaughter of a “revivalist” he does not name. Johnson asked her to pray for him because “she carried a family anointing that could be imparted.” – Where is this taught in scripture?

Johnson: “We must stop the slander and criticisms, even if the details are true. These people should be held in respect for what they did accomplish for God. The kingdom culture celebrates people for who they are without stumbling over who they are not. Such is the culture of heaven. Refuse to participate in the careless conversations of other believers who take pleasure in giving such critiques.”

Johnson uses the stories of biblical figures such as of Solomon and Hezekiah as examples of people who finished poorly, he also mentions the deceivers, liars, adulterers, and even a prostitute in the lineage of Christ. How would we know the facts concerning these individuals who finished poorly unless these facts were spoken about and subsequently recorded in scripture? But now he expects us to avoid critique even if the details are true, of his personal heroes. What about real conversations based on facts? What about preventing the perpetuation of the false teachings taught by some of the frauds he idolizes? What about rebuking those who follow the unsound doctrines of departed false teachers?

Johnson: “And finally, we must honor the Holy Spirit who rested upon them. Even more specifically, we must give honor to the particular kind of anointing they carried. For example, I am told that William Branham had over 10 000 open visions, with 100 percent accuracy in his miracle ministry. This means I must give a place of great value in my heart for this kind of ministry if I want to experience it myself. This usually starts by valuing God’s anointing on others who operate in word of knowledge, specifically through open visions. We must refuse the temptation to compare and critique. Rather, we celebrate. For what we celebrate we will be far more likely to participate in.”
Johnson logic – Ignore details even if they are true, but believe everything you are told. Johnson is teaching the law of attraction, and notice how he continually primes his followers to never question. Scripture instructs us to test all things, and compare what is being taught with scripture. Johnson instructs his minions to refrain from any form of critique, in order to attract the anointing they desire. The Holy Spirit apportions the gifts as he wills, not according to our desires or because we honor individuals with gifts we covet.

Johnson: “Honor comes from the heart. Getting rid of the religious need to tear others down in order to feel better about ourselves will go a long way in helping us tap into spiritual inheritance.  What people have accomplished in the generations before us, was always meant to be left for us as an inheritance.”

More brainwashing and sly innuendoes from Johnson. We are instructed to expose false teachers and their teachings, not to feel better about ourselves, but to snatch souls out of the fire. Our spiritual inheritance has been given to us by God, through his Holy Spirit, based on the work of Christ – not the dead.

By honoring the dishonorable, and pursuing power over principle, Bill Johnson has dishonored God, and led thousands into deception.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”
2 Timothy 4:3-4

The Super Apostles’ Hireling Todd Bentley – A Tragic Affair

By Rick Becker  27 August 2019

For years, discerning believers (all believers should be discerning) have been warning about the “ministry” of Todd Bentley. Instead of heeding warnings, the super apostles’ of the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) knowingly chose to elevate and commission a man who kicked and punched people desperate for healing. Isn’t it strange, that “apostles & prophets” who claim to have the ability to declare things into existence and predict the future of nations, have failed to recognize the abominable acts committed by one of their own favourite sons- right under their noses. It should come as no surprise that the fruits of a movement that elevates man and relegates God are rotten to the core. This is a tragic affair, because despite the fact that Bentley is accountable for his own sin, the super apostles’ of the NAR elevated Bentley, and gave him a larger platform. The world associates this despicable movement with the “church,” and the victims associate these elevated charlatans with “men of God.” Just as tragic, is the fact that leaders in the NAR refuse to consider valid criticism, and resort to the usual tactics by condemning those who expose their false teachings as heresy hunters or as having a “religious spirit.”

New allegations have surfaced – you can watch Bentleys response here.  He disputes the “majority of the accusations” but states that there are “some that are true.” Bentley then talks about “faults that are many years old.” God forgives those who truly repent, that is not the issue here. The issue is Bentley’s lifestyle of sin, which not only disqualifies him from any form of ministry (not that he was ever qualified), but should have had him excommunicated from the church on more than one occassion.
What makes this whole sordid affair, not only an embarrassment, but also impossible to ignore, is the fact that it was a charismatic “revivalist” in the NAR or at the very least closely associated with NAR teachers, that brought the issue to light. Stephen Powell was influenced by Bentley:
“My connection with Todd goes back to when I was a kid when I can remember getting his books and teaching cds for Christmas from my parents. Todd’s life and testimony inspired me when I was nineteen years old, fresh out of High School, to take five months off of work, lock myself in my room, and seek the Lord day and night. It was at that time that I had my first visitation of Jesus, and that I first began to move in the prophetic and healing gifts.”
Powell describes of a photo of himself which picked up a peacock feather on his shirt, somehow the photo picked up what he was “wearing in the spirit realm.” Powell claims it was actually a feather that Bob Jones gave to me, um, when I had a heavenly encounter with him in 2014 right after he passed. I went to heaven and I saw Bob Jones and he handed me a Peacock feather, which is a piece of his mantle”
Divination involving false prophet
Bob Jones is just about as big and bold a red flag you could ask for. So clearly, Powell is as deceived as the rest of the prophets of the NAR, and should be marked and avoided.

The details of the allegations are too sordid to publish here, but you can read Powell’s open letter here.
The goings-on behind the scenes resemble the Mafia : “Some of the witnesses I talked to at the beginning of my investigation have since withdrawn their testimony because they have been threatened by people involved in this network of sin and cover-ups. I’ve come across at least one witness who was paid off and made to sign a legal gag order in order to keep silent about the great sins and abominations he’s witnessed. And in some cases, I personally have been threatened with a lawsuit and violence if I revealed my findings.”

Powell also mentions how Knight of Malta and NAR apostle Rick Joyner (who is now in full damage control mode) refused to entertain his plea to address the issues regarding Bentley. Rick Joyner’s incoherent rants indicate that he is intent on saving his own skin, while at the same time demonizing anyone who exposes Bentley’s shenanigans. Excerpt from Joyner’s rant: “I will say this about Todd, he’s still being restored, but guess what, so am I, so are you, we still have a ways to go, and uh, I felt like the Lord showed me in 2008 that this wasnt the last big public embarrassement that Todd was going to have, or mistake, or sin, I was given the scripture in proverbs where the righteous fall seven times, even the righteous fall seven times, he said but they rise yet again, and he said Todd would keep getting back up, he would fight on..”
Being a “prophet” Joyner should have acted on this revelation and saved some from becoming victims of Bentley’s wicked acts. How many times will Joyner allow Bentley to “fall.” It does not seem to matter to Joyner, who is more concerned with Powell going public out of frustration, than Bentley’s sin: “I’ve seen the consequences of those who’ve done the things that this brother is doing … I was waiting to meet with him so that I could have something from God that I could give to him that might help set him free from the course that I believed him to be on…It’s a black hole when you start to believe you’re the police of the body of Christ but you’re not getting that from above. You’re getting it from the devil.”

No Rick, it’s a black hole when you protect a predator by sitting on information with hard evidence, while a bible lies on your shelf. Joyner’s reason once again exposes the root probem with the NAR – scripture is insufficient in their world! The the bible is clear regarding qualifictions for the ministry, clear regarding church discipline, and clear regarding false teachers! While Bentley was possibly stalking his next victim, Joyner was waiting to hear from God in order to discipline the whistle blower. It’s impossible to read Paul’s epistles without coming to the conclusion that he too, “policed” the body of Christ. What is from the devil, is the New Apostolic Reformation. What we are witnessing are the fruits of a man centered movement, with leaders who are willing to fleece and slaughter the flock for their own shameless benefit. The only consolation is that these wolves attract more goats than sheep.

Jeremiah Johnson, another “prophet” who has pulled the wool over many eyes sat on the information Powell provided for three weeks, and then in a dream, he saw Paul Cain and Todd Bentley with plucked out eyes, and Python’s around their necks. Johnson claims God told him the following during the dream: “And when you see all these things come to pass, know then that I am releasing judgement upon My house. For My people have worshipped these men. My people have failed to discern. In that day, when exposure comes, tell My people to not accuse, to not point the finger, but rather to ask themselves, “How have I contributed to all of this?” For the judgment that shall come upon My house in the days ahead will directly deal with the idol worship of men and ministries that is an abomination before Me.”

Jeremiah Johnson is the one who has failed to discern, I know for a fact that he was warned and implored to avoid Joyner the Knight of Malta, but he probably saw an opportunity for greater exposure, and has amassed more followers. As a “prophet” he has has zero discernment, because he considers Todd White to be “a voice of truth in the body of Christ.” Yes, the same Todd White who claims to be sinless, performs the fake leg-lengthening trick, and partners with heretics like Benny Hinn and Kenneth Copeland.
Johnson has now thrown down the gauntlet to Joyner, threatening that unless Joyner deals with the predator Bentley, he will separate himself “from Morningstar Ministries and will no longer be speaking at their conferences.” Those unhappy with Joyner’s response, can simply exchange one false prophet for another by following Jeremiah Johnson, who stands to gain as a result of this dispute by becoming the new trusted and reliable prophetic voice who appears to make a stand against sin.
But where is the other Johnson – apostle Bill Johnson who commissioned Bentley, helped “restore” Bentley. Bill Johnson was promoting Bentley as recently as June 2018, encouraging people to attend Bentleys revival meeting where Johnson promised “massive conversions and miracles.” If Bill Johnson took the time to listen to those pesky watchman, internet police, accusers of the brethren, and people with a “religious spirit” he would have issued a warning instead of promoting a predator.
Bill Johnson: “While few would admit it, the attitude of the Church in recent days has
been, “If I’m uncomfortable with something, it must not be from God.” This attitude has given rise to many self-appointed watchdogs who poison the Church with their own fears. Hunger for God then gives way to fear of deception. What do I trust most, my ability to be deceived or His ability to keep me? And why do you think He gave us the Comforter? He knew His ways would make us uncomfortable first.”
(
Bill Johnson, When Heaven Invades Earth, p 79.)

Dear Bill, the watchdogs were uncomfortable when some spirit told Todd Bentley to kick an older lady in the face. Even the United Kingdom had more discernment than NAR apostles and were “uncomfortable” with Bentley’s violent healing ministry and banned him from visiting the country.

Let’s revisit the moment when Bentley was catapulted into the limelight by the NAR super apostles. If you have not read this excellent and informative article by Steven Kozar – We Remember: The Charismatic Day of Infamy, June 23rd, 2008, I’d encourage you to read it here. Kozar’s article contains a clip of the first part of Todd Bentley’s “commissioning” and some extra resources. I’m going to move on to the next segment, where an incapacitated Bentley receives prophetic words from the super apostles. I’ll post some excerpts from their words, with commentary below the link.

That was basically the Praise Todd Bentley show, but lets examine a few of the prophetic words:

“Apostle” Bill Johnson: “When David wanted Uriah killed, he sent him into battle, and then withdrew from him. As a company of people, we refuse to do that. Many revivals in history have been cut short of their intention in God’s destiny and intention over individuals because of jealousies and fears that get stirred up in the people of God, and we refuse to do that. We shape the course of history, by partnering with you, giving honor where it’s due. You welcome the glory, as well as any anybody I’ve ever seen in my life.

So Johnson & co decided to back Bentley, probably because of the so called signs and wonders at Lakeland, maybe they were jealous themselves? If you can’t beat them, make them join you? So they joined themselves to a literal beater, and Bill thought history would be shaped. Todd’s abuse has shaped the life of many victims, and we can only pray that they will find comfort and truth in the gospel and in our saviour. Instead of Todd outshining Moses, the NAR apostles created a Pharaoh. Bentley has not altered the face of the church before the world, he’s a farce, he does not, and never has represented the true church of Jesus Christ. The same goes for these charlatans running the NAR, they claim to hear from God, and speak on behalf of God to the whole body of Christ. Why did God not tell them what Bentley was up to? Where was Shawn Bolz, the man who can supposedly tell strangers their street address and the name of their fluffy toy when they were five?

Unknown “apostle” : “For the Lord would say unto thee that this day, you have loosened upon this earth, yea what I have wanted for centuries to come forth, a kingly anointing which will bring in money, money, money, because the business man will rise up, and they will go forth under this anointing, and no more will they stay hidden in the shadows, but they shall go forth into the political world, into the business world, into the military world, and great changes shall take place saith the Lord, because this night is a night where you started out speaking your first words about the kingdom of God.”

Wow, so Todd finally relieved God from waiting for centuries. The God that took a coin from the mouth of a fish had to wait for Todd Bentley to release money through his kingly anointing. This flawed reasoning is why these “apostles” can find no wrong with Bill Johnson’s heretical statement  – God’s in charge, but he’s not in control. The only great changes that have taken place in the world since that infamous commissioning, are those that scripture predicted – an increase in wickedness, a great falling away –  a deluded false church that have rejected the truth. Don’t be surprised if these super apostles one day have a commissioning ceremony for the antichrist!

Female “apostle” :“Todd the Spirit of God says years from now people will look at this time, and they will recognize it as when their God showed up and created within the church a new heart says the Lord, and I will genesis in the midst of the chaos in the world today, and I will not just bring a mending, but I will bring forth that which is new, that which is dedicated, that which is uh, uh decided, that which is pure, and I will heal the corruptness of the heart says God.”

It’s been years, and we recognize that a great deception took place, one that elevated a man, and enabled him to prey on people. Why did God wait so long to give the church a “new heart” ? All that took place on that day, was an activation (NAR terminology) of the impure and the corruptible. Will this apostle repent of her false prophecy?

Female “apostle”: ” For the word of the Lord would say behold the vanguard, behold the tugboat that is cutting through the ice of religious traditions  the cool hard thing, the understanding of the mind of man will now bow to the reality of the revelation of the finished work of calvary, behold saith God, you have been equipped with cutting power, you have been equipped to go through those traditions of the mind of man, yea saith God and you are pulling the church into the realm of glory, behind you is a great ship that is laden with healing and deliverance and prosperity. This is the word to you oh man of God, arise kill and eat, no longer, no longer, no longer will men call unclean what I have called clean”
By traditions, did she mean expository teaching, not kicking people, doing things decently and in order, testing all things…you know, all the things that scripture commands us to do? If this lady and her fellow apostles believed in the finished work of calvary, this event would not have taken place. They are making Bentley into a kind of saviour, a deliverer, a king, a portal and glory carrier, this is pure idolatry!

“Apostle” Rick Joyner: “God has sent you as an antidote to that lukewarm spirit, and that fire has been birthed here, it’s been released here, you’ve unstopped the well, you have other wells to unstop, and other cities, and other places, this is just the beginning, and uh, there is longevity too, there is increase but there is also longevity coming, there are many wells, but there are also oil wells, and they catch on fire when you unstop them.”

Well, the antidote failed miserably, but Joyner was right about one thing – increase came, an increase of evil.

Unknown “apostle”: “Todd the Lord has made you to be a detonator, I see cables going around the world to different nations, I see Great Britain been set ablaze by the power of God, I see even as you go ito places that God says you’ll go even with the glory even like William Branham and the Lord says you’ll carry a portal anointing and whatever city you go over there will be a portal, there will be a portal that is opened up says the Lord, the Lord says you’ll detonate and boom, boom, boom, there will be a release of glory to the nations says the spirit of the Lord.”
Great Britain wisely rejected Todd’s appearance on their shores, and I wish these NAR apostles would stop idolizing William Branham who believed “the zodiac and the Egyptian pyramids are equal to written Scripture.” Obviously “portals anointings” don’t exist, but that’s the advantage of being self appointed apostles, you get to make stuff up, and your gullible followers fail to compare your ideas with what scripture actually teaches.

Unknown “apostle”: “Todd as a fellow Canadian there’s the word honour written all over you tonight, because of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob you’ve honored the generations that have gone before you, as a son you’ve reached out to the fathers and you said bless me, and you have blessed us tonight and so we honour you, you’ve honoured the word of God, you’ve honoured the spirit of God, you’ve honoured the moving of the Holy Spirit and the ways of God, and so tonight we just affirm that the rest of honour that is upon your life will follow you now in every nation that you go, and you will draw men and women to you, that seek honour and want to walk to together, and want to be what God wants them to be, in this generation, Todd Bentley, the word honour rests upon your life.”
And that’s where it went wrong: “you will draw men and women to you.”

The majority of this final clip contains a “prophetic word” from Stacey Campbell, who is quite obviously manifesting something. Bill Johnson, Rick Joyner and the other apostles stand idly by during this Kundalini type episode, during which Campbell compares Bentley to Jesus.

Stacey Campbell: “And Todd, I have chosen you because of your background, because of your background, because of your background, to release my nature when you release my gifts…to become a living epistle, like the word that became flesh and people saw the glory of God.”
I don’t know what “background” she is referring to, but it’s certainly not his biblical studies. God can use any believer, regardless of their background before their repentance and salvation! But it seems as if Bentley is simply repeating the sinful ways of his “background.” Unfortunately Campbell’s blasphemous statement regarding Bentley is yet another product of a movement that has elevated men and women, and relegated God. If we are to believe Campbell’s prophecy, It seems as if God had no idea what Bentley would get up to – but that’s the god of the apostles and prophets of the NAR, he’s limited.

Stacey Campbell : “The holy Spirit fell on me, and he started to speak to me over and over again, about a generation that would come on the earth that would do signs and wonders that would change society, and society would not change them, and you are a firtsfruits of that generation of nation changers that will release the glory of God in all it’s fullness”
That was not the Holy Spirit speaking to Stacey, we know this because she received a message contrary to what the Holy Spirit inspired in the scriptures – society will grow increasingly wicked, and there will be a great apostasy, not revival.

While all eyes are on Bentley, the silence of the super apostles is deafening. Their prophecies concerning Bentley were false, their discernment regarding Bentley non existent. Friends, this movement is not from God except in the sense that it’s a judgement and God sent delusion on a people who reject truth and desire preeminence.

The New Apostolic Reformation – A Shelter for the Unqualified

By Stephen Colin   9 August 2018

Bob Dylan, hailed as one of the great song writers of the 20th century penned a song called “Shelter from the Storm” in 1975. The lyrics to the song have been regarded as a poetic masterpiece, which is probably why he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2016. The third verse in particular uses imagery which is akin to something we see in the visible church today. Dylan writes, “Not a word was spoke between us, there was little risk involved. Everything up to that point had been left unresolved. Try imagining a place where it’s always safe and warm. Come in, she said I’ll give ya shelter from the storm.”  These lyrics describe something taking place in the the fastest growing movement under the name of “Christianity,” the NAR (New Apostolic Reformation)  The NAR, along with a host of serious issues (articulated in our previous blogs) has become somewhat of a shelter for the unqualified.

What would you do if you discovered that a certain hospital performing heart surgeries , used unqualified people to operate on patients?  I’m sure you would expose the hospital, and warn as many people as possible to avoid them!  The NAR in like manner is a movement which shelters unqualified “apostles, prophets and pastors,” and provides them with a platform to perform deadly surgery on the souls of men and women. I remind you that the “apostles and prophets” in this movement are already unqualified simply because of the fact that the church has “…been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets..” (Eph. 2:20)  This makes it impossible for anyone to hold such offices in the church today. However, the office of Pastor is still functioning in Christ’s church, and many who have proven themselves unqualified for this position have found refuge in the NAR. The question that this article seeks to answer is simply this: why is a movement claiming to represent the true church of Jesus Christ sheltering unqualified individuals?

The Bible is absolutely clear regarding the qualifications for a pastor.  Paul writes to Timothy – “An overseer (a word used interchangeable with elder and pastor), then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not addicted to wine or pugnacious, but gentle, peaceable, free from the love of money.  He must be one who manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity (but if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of the church of God?), and not a new convert, so that he will not become conceited and fall into the condemnation incurred by the devil. And he must have a good reputation with those outside the church, so that he will not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.”
(1 Tim. 3:2-7)
Paul also tells Titus that  “he must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.” (Tit. 1:9)
To sum it up: a pastor must be qualified in two vital areas, Character and Doctrine.

In light of the clear teaching of Scripture regarding who gets to be a pastor, I would like to briefly examine two individuals who have found shelter in the NAR, even though they are unqualified for the position.

1. Todd Bentley
How in the world does this man still have a voice in the visible church?  Answer: The NAR has sheltered him. It is a well-known fact that Todd Bentley committed adultery and got a divorce.  He went on to marry the woman whom he had an affair with providing us all with evidence that this man was unrepentant.  Clearly this is someone who has disqualified himself from ministry (even though it could easily be argued that he was never qualified doctrinally anyway).  Yet, Todd Bentley has been fully restored and is continuing to deceive millions. This didn’t happen by accident.

Two popular “apostles” in this cancerous movement played a major part in restoring this fraud.  Rick Joyner and Bill Johnson paved the way for Bentley to continue preaching his delusional message, accompanied by false signs and wonders, ridiculous claims of raising the dead, and bizarre behavior which has absolutely nothing to do with Biblical Christianity.

A second individual who has found shelter in this unbiblical movement is none other than…
2. Mark Driscoll
In short, this man basically fled church discipline after serious allegations of plagiarism were charged against him. (You can read more about this saga at this here.)
There is no doubt that this has damaged his reputation with those outside the church, disqualifying him from pastoral ministry, yet in the short time of about two years he is already pastoring a new church (The Trinity Church, Scottsdale, Arizona). And guess which crowd he’s running with now? The NAR. They have gladly taken him in and sheltered him from the storm of those “stuffy christians” who have called for repentance. Charisma Mag, the online purporters of NAR theology have recently promoted Driscoll and his new book “Spirit-Filled Jesus.” Not only are they promoting his book, but he will even be speaking at the Charisma Conference!  Sadly, another unqualified “pastor” sheltered by the NAR.

These are just two examples among many! Steven Furtick wrote a book called “Unqualified” in which he demonstrates how unqualified he actually is for pastoral ministry by the way he mishandles God’s precious Word. Therefore, it is no surprise that he too has been embraced by the NAR, evidenced by his more recent associations and conferences like the “Dominion Camp Meeting” where in 2017 he partnered with the “apostle” Rod Parsley, the supreme heretic Jesse Duplantis, and Perry Stone.

I believe that the reason why the NAR is so quick to shelter unqualified ‘pastors’ is simply because this movement is not from God.  This movement has not come about through a serious exegetical study of the Word of God, and has consistently shown a complete lack of discernment.  This movement is a continuation of the “Third wave” Charismatic movement which prepared the way for some of the most destructive false teachers in church history.  This movement not only produces these false teachers, but gladly takes in and shelters those who have been exposed in more doctrinally sound environments.

Coming back to Bob Dylan’s song I think it is fair to say that the NAR’s message to the unqualified is this: “Come in, she said I’ll give ya shelter from the storm.”

Instead of being sheltered by this abhorrent movement these “pastors” should be called to repentance. God is Holy and will not be mocked. The NAR may be able to protect these men from the temporal storm of discerning christians, however who is going to protect them on the day of Judgment when everything will be exposed? Who will be their advocate on that day?

This is a reminder that every single one of us must flee to Christ and throw ourselves at His mercy! Not only did He bleed and die upon the cross to satisfy the wrath of God, but he imputes His perfect righteousness to the account of those who humbly repent of their sin and put all of their trust in the Risen and Returning Christ.  Only with our sins wiped away and the righteousness of God that comes through faith will we be sheltered and able to withstand the storm of God’s righteous Judgement.  As Jesus Himself said in Matthew 7:25, “And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.”

A better song goes like this:

“My hope is built on nothing less,
Than Jesus Christ, my righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.”

Edward Mote (1797-1874)
